Overview

The Online Student Services Coordinator is responsible for maintaining the primary relationship between the student and the school. He/She is responsible for both retention and effective engagement, and for assisting the student as the single point of contact until successful completion of the academic program. The Online Student Services Coordinator develops deep expertise in the management of students through various academic programs, including Healthcare, Business, Information Technology and Criminal Justice, with an emphasis on Orientation, Standard and Intervention advisement strategies.

Qualifications

Minimum Experience Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree from and accredited college or university in a related field such as education, counseling or higher education
  • Previous experience in online learning as a student teacher or academic advisor
  • Five years of experience in online customer service and/or academic support

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Maintains a calm, friendly demeanor when assisting students
  • Demonstrates knowledge of current instructional and assessment models, methodologies and software
  • Analyzes problems, identifies alternative solutions, projects consequences of proposed actions, recommends best options, and implements approved solution(s) in support of corporate goals
  • Works independently in the absence of supervision
  • Uses initiative and independent judgment within established guidelines
  • Communicates clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing
  • Establishes and maintains effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work
  • Working knowledge of common office software, including word processing, spreadsheets, email, and CampusVue strongly preferred
  • Business letter writing and report preparation
  • English usage, spelling, grammar and punctuation

Responsibilities

Key Responsibilities

  • Serves as the Primary Relationship Owner Between the Student and the School
    • Acts as the liaison between the school and students related to academic progress, retention and post-graduation planning
    • Promotes success by teaching appropriate skills for success in online learning
    • Provides information on school policies, procedures and best practices
    • Coordinates resources and effectively advises students based on academic and personal/social needs
    • Communicates with and advises students who have academic or attendance problems to ensure resolution toward corrective action
    • Maintains high levels of student satisfaction as measured by student retention, student satisfaction surveys, student graduation rates and graduation surveys
    • Ensures that all student service activities are in compliance with department and organizational policies and procedures.
  • Monitors and Influences Student Progress
    • Creates effective academic planning activities leading to successful completion of the chosen program of study by the scheduled graduation date
    • Contacts students through written and verbal communications to advise students regarding academic status necessary for on-time graduation
    • Provides graduation candidacy related information to appropriate campus personnel as requested.
    • Audits student schedules for candidacy for graduation, as determined by the college policy, to ensure timely progress towards graduation.
  • Drives Efforts to Retain Students
    • Plays a lead role with student re-entry efforts to increase enrollment and retention including student data analysis and outreach
    • Contributes to the development of company best practices to improve student engagement
    • Advises students, along with the Financial Aid Planner, of the impact of enrollment status in regards to financial options and obligations
    • Develops remediation plans related to satisfactory academic progress where appropriate
    • Directs retention activities for continuing and re-entry students through re-enrollment activities and attendance tracking
